Forerunner 45 battery life

Greetings,

I am a few runs in to my new Forerunner 45. I have experimented with starting my runs on a fully charged watch. I am curious to know what sort of battery life folks have been experiencing with GPS + heart rate activated. This watch purports a 13-hour battery life when GPS is activated, but I've found a ~20% drain in battery life after an hour run. I have deactivated all battery-draining features as recommended in the Forerunner 45 manual. It would seem that I could maybe achieve 13 hours of battery life on GPS mode only, but a much lower battery life when the heart rate sensor is activated.

Does this experience resonate with anyone else? Thanks in advance. -R

Me. I did a 30 minute workout just now, no GPS, and had a 20% battery drop after a full charge. Watch is only about a week old. Already replaced the first one for similar issues.

  • Since the battery status resolution in FR45 jumps in 20% (100 - 80 - 60 - 40 - 20 - 1%), it's pretty normal what you're reporting. What matters is the total running time. I have a FR45 and use it for cycling 1h:30m per day, 6 times per week, including 24/7 HR monitoring, and I need to recharge it every 5 days.

I got mine last December for Christmas. I want to start off by saying that I am a big fan of Garmin.  With that said, I have had the same issue with the battery.  I just charged my watch two days ago to 100 percent. I did two runs over 3 days. One was 10 miles and one was 8. It shows at 60 percent already. The forerunner  35 would last days at a time.. That one still works great.  I have had the 45 die during a runner a few time because I forgot to charge it . I may contact Garmin about it.  Thanks for your post!
