Yes, I've been getting excessively high wrist-based HR readings lately when using my FR45 when walking on the treadmill or lifting weights. In these situations, wrist HR should be accurate, right? (When I run I don't rely on the optical sensor and instead use a chest strap.) Sometimes if I shut the watch off and back on again, the HR readings will be back within a believable range, but quickly climb back up again. Seems like it just started recently, so maybe it was due to the software update.
Nonetheless, I've mostly given up on wrist-based HR being reliable and use the chest strap almost exclusively when exercising. Yes, I've read all the trouble-shooting articles on optical heart rate and am certain I am wearing it correctly -- snug on the wrist, before the wrist bone. Would love to know if there are other suggestions.
Sorry, I gave up on FR 45 HR monitoring too. Occasional crazy high numbers when sitting on my butt doing nothing shook my confidence in the device, to say nothing of their effect on my intensity statistics. I just got tired of sifting through bogus data. It’s still a great GPS watch, but I’ve moved on to something else.
