Forerunner 45 sometime doesn't turn on

Since I only use my watch for tracking my runs and hikes, and not as a daily activity tracker, I usually turn it off in the meantime. However, I had two times now in the past month where the device had problems turning on again, despite it being (nearly fully charged). What eventually helped was connecting it to the charger again, and pressing buttons for a long time (30 seconds or so).

My Forerunner 45 runs the latest software (3.10). I also have the impression that the problem started after the 3.xx software updates. Is this a known issue, or may it be hardware related? Apart from this issue (which has occurred twice now), the watch is completely fine.

Thanks for any recommendations!

  • Hmm, just read that, but it doesn't sound like a fix if you have to do that every two weeks.

I just had the same thing happen. I left the watch overnight in my hotel safe while on travel.  Tried to turn it on to go exercise in the morning and it was dead.  Your post about holding the light button for 30 seconds woke it up.

30 second hold on light button worked for the recent non starter episode.

fyi, my forerunner 45 is 3 weeks old and I've had the same issue, the battery was 60%. Problem I have is the connectivity with my iPhone XR keeps failing so I have to turn the FR45 off and on again which in turn has led to your reported issue.  Garmin really need to sort out the connectivity issues with the FR45, bluetooth is as old as the hills now and I never had any issues with my Fitbit:-(

    • I am having same issue, loses blue tooth connection and so have to turn off. Now won’t turn on at all even after 30 secs (charge cable at home as fully charged it this morning) have only had watch  since the weekend having upgraded from my Fitbit which had none of these issues

i have the same issue...   Cant sync my rides because it wont connect to my phone.  This happens every 3 or 4 rides.  the only way to get it back is turn off the garmin 45, but then it wont easily turn back on.   After seeing other having the same issue i wish i would have spent my money on a different brand of GPS watch.   At least I haven't lost any activities yet.....  that would be unforgivable!!

Don’t buy a garmin 45.   Dosent connect via Bluetooth, then won’t turn when you need to reboot the garmin to connect to your phone...   now my garmin 45 is stuck on the reboot screen with the triangle...   I should have spent the $200 on groceries or toilet paper instead of this thing
