Have seen on other posts it may be a memory issue and this was a longer run than usual. If I delete from my watch will I lose the data? I am a mac user (in case relevant!) Advice appreciated.

If any activities have not yet synced with Garmin connect, then you will lose that data. You should move the files off the device onto your mac.
It's likely that you have 1 activity (.fit file) that is corrupt. You can test if this is the case by trying a manual upload to Garmin Connect Web.

Directions for Mac users are here - How Do I Manually Upload an Activity I Recorded to Garmin Connect?
If you get any message other than Import Complete, then there is a problem with the file. In that case, please attach it to this thread. We can take a look to see if it is repairable.
3 ways to get the file to us:
B4A80829.FIT.zipThank you! Hopefully this has worked...
1 timestamp with erroneous GPS data
This will work for you - B4A80829-fixed.fit
Repaired using Fit File Repair Tool. Import into Garmin Connect using the import data page
The Forerunner 35 is sensitive to excessive files in the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder, so once you've confirmed all has synced, remove all files within that folder.
Thank you so much, really appreciate you fixing this for me so quickly! I'll delete everything in that folder now. Have a great weekend :)
