Start an activity via the Garmin Connect app on iPhone 7 instead of FR35

Hello.

Just received my Forerunner 35, replacement for my OLD and trusting Forerunner 205.

I’m wondering if I can start an activity from the Garmin Connect app on my iPhone 7, instead of from the FR35 itself.

I’m wearing a jacket now outdoors because of the weather and it’s not that practical to work on the watch outside, with the jacket on.

I’ve looked at the app, but can’t find anything.

Thanks for any advice

Barb

  • No. If you want to record an activity it has to be done from the watch. You can use Move IQ to automatically track events in the Garmin Connect timeline but it won't have the detail and maps like you would for an activity.

If you're having trouble pushing the start/stop button because your watch is under layers of clothing, you might consider a band extender so you can wear it on the outside of your jacket.

Thank you for the suggestion of a band extender. I will look into that.
