Lost steps

I think my Forerunner 35 must have frozen as the step counter didn’t change for about a 24 hour period. I turned it off and on and this lost all data for that day. Is it possible to manually add steps to Garmin connect

I noticed that my Forerunner 35 had 1000 more steps than the app. When I restarted the device, I lost the steps. What?!
