Outdoor run tracked as treadmill

Hi, apologies if this is something that's been covered, I've been searching for ages without success.
I'm new to running, bought a Garmin 30 the other day to track times, distance etc. Tested it while walking the dogs, everything worked fine, uploaded to Garmin Connect and was seen as an outdoor walk complete with map and stats. Did a run this morning - switched on GPS first and waited for a signal - then set off. It wasn't until I got home and checked it on Garmin Connect I noticed it was tracked as a treadmill run with no map details. Is there a setting I've missed?
Thanks,
Gary.

Update - I've just been for a walk, same thing. The Pace graph is shown but nothing in the Elevation gain box. The GPS signal was definitely picked up before I set the timer. I switched the watch off and on again before starting the walk.
  • There's no reason this shouldn't work just like your test while walking the dogs. Did you do anything differently?

Since I last posted it's worked, failed to work and worked on my run this morning. I read somewhere if this happens you should shut down the watch and start it again or reset it. I reset it yesterday and the maps were there after a walk, went for a walk later in the day and they were missing. I shut it down and restarted this morning before my run and the maps were there again. I think there might be a weather issue, it's been very cloudy and rainy here the last couple of days, the skies have been black.
