Forerunner 30 - can't find Move IQ

I'm new-ish to running and have only had my Forerunner 30 for a few weeks. I'm recovering from an injury so having to rely on walking and swimming and was hoping the Move IQ feature would record them (and motivate me a bit). But it's not picking these activities up automatically, and when I go to Garmin Connect to check it's enabled, I can't find the feature at all. It's in the specs for the device - any ideas where I might find it? (It's not in Activity Tracking, where the Help section says it should be...) Thanks.
  • From what i understand move iq isnt a setting as such. I havent used my forerunner 30 for swimming but i have for both walking and running. When i sync to the garmin connect app either the run or walk is automatically identified correctly. I belive you can edit each activity once synced if it isnt

Move IQ will not register an activity automatically. What it does is it puts a mark on the daily activity timeline whenever it thinks you were doing an activity of certain type. You will not however see move iq detected events on the registered activities list.

As tmk2 has indicated, the Move IQ feature in the Forerunner 30 won't automatically start a timer. In Garmin Connect/Garmin Connect Mobile there is a setting that allows you to turn on/off the feature. It is under the device activity tracking settings in GC/GCM.
  • Thank you all for getting back to me - I really appreciate it. After some extra digging last night, we found the necessary information in the manual and, yes, you're right, I do need to start the timer first. Where the confusion arose was reading in the Understand Move IQ page (as referenced by tmk2 above) the words: "without the need to use the timed activity feature on their device". My pool was shut this morning, though, so no chance of testing it today! Many thanks.

Thank you Garmin-Joey. But as I said in my OP, it isn't there. I've attempted to upload a screenshot of the relevant page - am I looking in the wrong place?

My apologies, I was thinking of the Forerunner 35 which has a setting to turn on/off the Move IQ feature. The Move IQ feature in the Forerunner 30 is always on by default and is used to help categorize activities after the timer has started since it doesn't have separate activity profiles. So there isn't a setting to be turned on and off.

Since this is the case we would recommend that you start the timer your walking and running sessions to ensure that all activity data is captured.

Thanks for the info - I love my FR 30, so it's good to know there's nothing wrong, with it or me :-)

my problem is all my runs are being listed as walks. I can edit the info, however I sent my info to the Nike app also and my activities are all listed as walks. They however cannot be edited.

Anyone know how to sort this.
