Treadmill accuracy

Hi

I've used my frontrunner 35 on a treadmill a couple of times
Distance and total time seems very accurate
The km breakdown varies and the speed is very inaccurate

Despite running for 10 mins at 9.2 MPH (14.7km/h), the average pace varies between 3:42 and 3:54/km (again, the sum of 3:49 total does look accurate though)

With the speed

Avg Speed = 15.7 km/h
Avg Moving Speed = 15.9 km/h
Max Speed = 19.8 mk/h !!

This just doesn't equate as I am running at a constant 14.7 km/h

Outdoor running seems very accurate
Is there anything I should be doing to improve treadmill running accuracy?

Thanks

  • Pace is derived from an accelerometer in the watch. It works it out from your arm swing. If you are not swinging your arm due to drinking, looking at the watch, using a towel then it becomes inaccurate. I believe the FR35 supports a footpod. If so then this will make it more accurate as long as it’s calibrated.

What is the SPM (Steps Perm Minute) X Duration/Elapse Time X Stride length ? Does it equal the distance of the treadmill?
  • Thanks for the responses.
    Yes it does Luke2Sky.

Do I need to manually adjust something?

That is how it's calculating distance. The average stride length is correct I just think your stride length varies quiet a bit during the activity and will thus affect the pace displayed on the watch. The distance is accurate because the stride length is an average and so it all averages out to be accurate. If you need more accurate instantaneous pace look at getting a foot pod as that seems to be the only way to measure speed with out using the average stride length.
