ANT+ connection to peripheral devices

Just curious, after I linked my foot pod and HR strap the devices are connected automatically to the watch every time they are close.

Few questions:
1. Who is broadcasting the pairing search in ANT+ technology? The watch, the devices or both?
2. In which rate this initiator is doing it?
3. What is the distance range of ANT+?
4. Is it possible to see in the forerunner 35 the already connected devices? (in case I missed the connection notification)
  • ANT+ sensors don't actually "pair" to a device like bluetooth does. ANT+ sensors simply broadcast their information and it can be picked up by any device capable of doing so including more than one at a time. An ANT+ HRM for instance will send its information about 4 times per second. Range depends on a number of factors including transmitter power of the sensor and sensitivity of the receiver. Typically when you search for a new sensor the receiver sensitivity gets reduced so it only picks up strong signals which presumably are from your ANT+ sensor rather than the one next door. In unfavourable situations the shielding from your body alone is enough for ANT+ to loose reception. I can't help with your question 4 as I don't have a Forerunner 30 and/or 35.
