Watch will not Synch. Says Bluetooth is Off.... and it is not

I recently purchased Forerunner 35. After I worked thru upgrade from 2.7 to 2.8 to 3.1, now syncing to my phone is sporadic. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note4, Mobile Connect is version 3.18. When I try to sync from the watch, it says 'Bluetooth is Turned Off'. On the watch I turn Bluetooth off and on again, and do the same on the phone - same result. Once this morning it synch-ed, nothing was changed and it has not synch-ed since. it has been issue after issue since I got this watch 2 weeks ago. Really starting to wonder if i just got a defective watch. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  • Did you reboot your phone? That should help. If you don't want to do that because it takes time then turn off BT and open the app. There you tap on your device. At the page with the device you can see a message that BT is off. Tap on that message. Then allow that BT will be switched on again. A few moments later your Forerunner and your phone will connect again and sync.

Thanks. I tried both re-booting the phone and turning off Bluetooth and opening the app on the phone. The phone turned Bluetooth on but the problem appears to be the watch. On the watch, if I confirm Bluetooth is on and select Synch (or Find my Phone), it displays Bluetooth is off. I've tried turning Bluetooth Off and On. With the steps you provided, I also powered off the watch, and at first it looked like it was going to work, but then displayed 'Bluetooth Connection Lost'. Few minutes later it started to work again. Thanks again for the help. I'm still not optimistic how long it will work.

I had the exact same problem.  But resolved by chatting with Garmin Support.  you have to connect Bluetooth via Garmin Connect app instead of iPhone Bluetooth settings.  Try this:

    -- on your iPhone:

open Garmin Connect app.  at the lower right corner, hit the "More" button --> "Garmin Devices" --> "Add Device" blue bar at the bottom of the screen,  --> "Forerunner 35".

    -- on your Forerunner 35:

press the menu button (lower left),  scroll down to "Settings" -->"Bluetooth",--> "Pair Smartphone".   It will show a pairing code which you can enter to your iPhone

    Now the connection should work.
