Forerunner 35 charging problem

When I plug my Forerunner 35 in to the mains to charge, the battery bar goes straight to max and the charging icon shows a plug, rather than a lightning bolt. It does charge, but slowly. This didnt used to happen, and doesnt happen on my girlfriend's 35 running the same software. Any ideas?

It charges, connects and syncs to my pc using the same cable, and that works OK

thanks

I had the same issue. I solved mine by first powering the watch off and then connecting the charging cable.

This happened to me. I called customer support. They had me take a Q-tip and wet it with rubbing Alcohol. Clean the back of watch where it charges and cleanse the charger itself. Then charge with a computer, not with a wall unit. I used my iPhone wall unit. She said charge isn’t sufficient. This worked for me.

Thanks very much for this! This is the one way to charge FR35 with a wall charger. I was so upset that i was going to return it. Glad that it can charge without a PC now.

    Some updates and sharing...

i tried the above method again today and sadly it didn't work anymore. So i went on trying a lot of usb chargers and here is the result:

+ smart chargers with 2A discharge for fast charging tablets and phones etc., did not work
+ one 1A from Xiaomi and one 850mah from Blackberry did
+ oddly one 850mah from HTC did not work

so my advise is to use a "slow" charger, one that came with one of your old/less expensive phones. And once it charges it does not require "powering off" beforehand.
  • Yep, that is what I found too. The watch seems very sensitive to the output of the charger, and more amps isn't necessarily best! The q-tip in alcohol worked once, but that was a separate issue of dirt on the connections.

I had the same problem after connecting FR35 to a computer. I powered it off after reading this and it was solved. Thanks.
  • I used to charge my Forerunner 35 using the usb ports of my 8 year old Dell Dimension laptop. Whem I recently switched to a Microsoft surface book 2 I had the same problem mentioned here. It does charge however if I plug it into a usb-c mini hub. It looks like that provides the correct current.

  • I cleaned contacts and now works
