Forerunner 230 and Routegadget for orienteering

Hello, For years, I've been using my Forerunner 230 to generate a gpx file on an orienteering course, then import it into Routegadget to see my run on the orienteering map. However, recently, when I try to do this, I get a message that the coordinates of the gpx file don't correspond to those of the map, while other people don't seem to have this problem. Anyone got any ideas?

  • I don't know what you mean by generating GPX. If you export your activity as GPX and there is a problem, then try to export in other format. Or copy recorded FIT and convert it to GPX on your own using some software.

There are differences in files depending what creates them. For example the export option for GPX on Connect Web doesn't export laps, but other converters do.

  • I mean I export the gpx file from either Garmin Connect or Strava and import it into Routegadget which then fits the gpx file to the orienteering map. This is what I've been doing for many years and what all orienteers do. There should be no need to faff around with other formats. But its suddenly become a problem and Routegadget says the coordinates for the gpx file don't correspond to those of the map. No one else I know is having this problem, so it must be something to do with my Forerunner 230.

I'll try it today at an event and compare it with my Garmin 30, then maybe do a factory reset

  • You can also view exported GPX in a text editor, so you can compare it with previous one which worked, to be sure that all data is the same.

Or open it inside some mapping software, to check if it's placed correctly.
