VO2 Max scores from watch not updating to Garmin Connect app or website

My watch (Forerunner 235) continues to record new VO2 max scores, but they won't update to the Garmin Connect app or the website. The last VO2 max score on the app (and website) is from 29 Nov 2021, but I've got at least 5 runs in with new VO2 max scores (including one today). I've tried everything I can think of including:

  • multiple syncs
  • check software version of watch (it's up to date... v8.20)
  • soft reset of watch
  • hard reset of watch (reset to factory settings)
  • reboot iPhone
  • update Garmin Connect app on iPhone
  • change user profile setting (e.g., weight, height, age)

All of my other data syncs properly.

It seem to me that Garmin has changed something in the app and/or website that has caused the VO2 max scores to stop updating from the watch.

  • Thx for the update. Good they know about it

  • Chris, many thanks for the update!

  • Received this update from Garmin last night: VO2max for new activity will be uploaded thanks to a fix.
I have no idea how to re-upload previous activity to update missing V02max record.

Reaching back out regarding a case that was submitted on your behalf for an issue where recently uploaded activities that included updated VO2 Max data did not update within the Reports page of Garmin Connect.

We have identified the cause of this issue and implemented a back-end fix to address the issue. This fix will only apply to newly uploaded activities.

If there is a previously uploaded activity that you would like to have included in the VO2 Max report then the activity would need to be re-uploaded into the account in order for it to be displayed.

Will be nice to hear back from the community so that I can feedback Garmin support

  • Chris,

Yes, it is now working. I confirmed it with a run today. I provided some additonal info to Garmin Support, and they notified me about the fix, as well. I'm kind of surprised that the system worked this time around. :)

Here's what Garmin told me about syncing VO2 Max from previous activities:

In order to sync the VO2 Max Data from previous activities you would need to reload those activities by exporting the activity, deleting it from your account and importing the activity file so the system will upload it as a new activity.

     To reload an old activity:

    1. Sign in to Garmin Connect web from a web browser.

    2. Select Activities from the navigation bar on the left.

    3. Select All Activities.

    4. Select the name of the activity you would like to export.

    5. Select the settings gear in the top right corner.

    6. Select Export Original.
    7. Now that you have exported the activity you will need to DELETE that activity from your account.  In the list of activities you can select the trash can icon for that particular activity.  Please be sure you are deleting the correct activity.
    8. Select [cloud symbol with up arrow in it] in the top right corner of the page

    9. Select Import Data

    10. Select Browse

    11. Locate and select an activity file you had exported.  If the file was saved as a zipped or compressed file you will need to extract the zipped .fit file for the activity.

    12. Select Import Data

  • Thanks for sharing!

  • I wear an old Garmin VivoActive watch, which has been reliable since 2018 (no issues with Connect etc), but my VO2 max score update has reverted to the 1st January 2022. It's not updating, no matter what activity is recorded on each day, the app has reversed and gone back in time and I can't figure out why? other than this being an app glitch?

  • This seems to be an iPhone app issue. My iPhone app shows a VO2 Max score dated 31 Dec 2021, but the Garmin Connect website properly shows my VO2 Max score as of 07 Feb 2022.
