GPS issue Forerunner 230

Hi guys,

Yesterday I've gone out to a run after one month of self isolation and for my surprise, my forerunner 230 acted all weird. I always wait for the GPS to be found and all 5 lines to be green, and so I did yesterday, even if it took more than 5 minutes - which is a bit unusual. My surprise is that looking a few times at the pace, it was totally off. I mean, I only wish to run uphills with over 10% inclination with 5:15/km without pushing to hard.

Today I followed the same route (my usual route when just going for a quick trail run) and the same thing happend, except that the GPS was found within seconds. What was weird is that when uploading it to Strava, none of the segments or the map were shown and the run was seen directly as treadmill run. Need to clarify that my activity is not set as Indoor run. Also, both activities record twice the elevation than that route actually has. Just one weird thing, if looking at my activities on strava, it shows 2 runs this week and correct elevation - I mean the correct elevation somehow if these are summed up.

Today I've restored all settings to default just to see if tomorrow will work. Do you know experience similar issues at the moment?

Thanks,

Doru

  • Mine is five years old and has just started acting strangely. First time, the mileage on a run didn’t start until I’d already run a mile.  A couple of days later, my run turnaround point showed mileage as 3.75m instead of actual mileage of 2 miles. Do these watches start to act strangely as they get older?  Only other thing I’ve noticed is I have to charge it more frequently, even with my workouts being about the same.

  • Turn it off and on sometimes like once a month. Rarely it entered some loop which use battery fast, restarting fix and prevent that.

  • Thanks.  I'm not sure if I rebooted it between those problems but I have done it since the second one and will see if it happens again.
