FR235 is charging but discharges

Yes, it is. From some weeks I connect my FR235 to PC and it is discharge instead of charge. I connect the device to my pc when it is to 12% of charge and few minutes he goes to 2-3%. I try to change usb port, I try to change PC, then I try to connect the charging wire to smartphone battery charge but with the same results. The FR235 has about 28 months, so it is out of guarantee. Can anyone suggest me what to do?

  • Try another cable. If this does not help, then I'm affraid your watch is broken.

I have already try with another cable but doesn't solve.

  • I have a similar problem with my FR220. (Garmin killed the FR220 forum.)  It's not consistent, though. Sometimes it will charge up, although slowly. I suspect a loose connection in the charging cable / cradle.

One thing that can help is cleaning the charging contacts on the watch and on the cradle. Sometimes this can be caused by some sweat on the contacts on the watch.

If cleaning doesn't help, and you think the problem is with the charging cradle, you can buy a replacement cradle.

My FR220 is 6 years old, so the battery might be near the end of its life.

  • I normally use Linux O/S. I recently had my watch charging on a Windows computer. Several times, there was a tone indicating a device connected or disconnected. I assume this was because there is a loose connection in the cable.

In case it is the watch and not the cable, try doing a hard reset or even a factory reset on the watch prior to charging.

  • The problem with my FR220 got worse. I suspect the problem is with the pogo pins in the charging cradle. I'm using a rubber band to make contact between the watch and cradle more secure. So far, it seems to be working.

  • After more trials, I concluded use of the rubber band likely has no effect. The problem seems to be internal to my watch. Here is an example of what is happening:

    • I start charging. After a few minutes, I notice the charge level dropped from 32% to 29%.
    • I disconnect the watch from the charger. I reset the watch. (I hold the "Power" button for 20 seconds, until the screen goes blank.)
    • I reconnect the charger. The charge level showed 24%.
    • I repeat the reset and start charging again. The charge level shows 54%.
    • The watch charges to 85%, and then seems to stop charging.
    • I repeat the reset an start charging again. The charge level shows 92%.
    • The watch finishes charging normally to 100%.
