I am so unhappy with my garmin forerunner 230. First off it has never ever connected to my phone once. I have gone through all the steps multiple times and reset it and the phone multiple times and it simply will not connect. Secondly it is ALWAYS off on how far I run, I know because I track it with my car when I think it is off or look up the gps with my phone... both tracked a little further then my garmin did. Finally when I knew I was NOT running a 12 min. pace like my watch said I brought my boyfriends watch and it said I was pacing about an 8.30 pace which is what I thought I was running. So you can imagine when I am training for ultra marathons how this can mess with my training, mindset, and timing! Third, the little part snapped about 5 months after buying it that holds the band from flopping around, and tonight at work the band just totally snapped off. I have never in my life spent so much on a product and been this unhappy with it. I thought garmin's were supposed to be the best, track your distance, pace, the best, and be sturdy... and none of these things have held true for the garmin forerunner 230. ONE UNHAPPY CUSTOMER. If I am correct there are a lot of other runners out there with the EXACT same problems. DO NOT WASTE your money on this piece of junk. I want my money back!

  • I've had my 230 for 3.5 years and, pleased to say I've not experienced any of these issues apart from having a couple of replacement straps. My impression is that most users are not having these issues, or else this forum would be brimming with complaints like yours. What has Garmin said to you when you contacted their customer services, which I presume you've done?

Well, I “presume” u feel very lucky to not have had ANY problems with your watch. Thank you so soo much for your informative reply... really! Have a mighty blessed day. And yes, I have emailed them with no reply. Thank you again for your concern. I “presume” ur code names “FISHY” for a reason!

Was merely pointing out that, in all liklihood, it's inaccurate to generally regard this product as "a piece of junk" based on your sample size of 1, and the lack of volume of other similar reports. I'm certainly sorry that you're having the problems you're experiencing, but I'm sure c/s will resolve it for you, one way or another.

Thank you for posting your experience.  I've had my 235 since June and was skeptical at first as to its all round accuracy but stuck with it, I too am training for ultras and i wonder too about pace but most frustrating is the heart monitor function.  It is totally crap when used from the wrist sensor.  So crap in fact that i'm reluctant to even consider buying a chest strap as I think i;ll just be throwing good money after bad!  The heart rate graphs are hilarious and have no pattern whatsoever with the elevation or pace or cadence!!! It has almost completely given up after the most recent software update to the point that yes, me too, I want my money back!
