Several issues with update to new software version

My Garmin Forerunner 235 suggested a software update on activity start today, which I postponed. After 250 m of running I realized, that although a lap pace was displayed, distance was not increasing. So I cancelled the activity. Cancelling didn't find any end for 3 mins, so I shut it down by long pressing the on/off switch, which took another 3 mins and probably force installed the update without any asking for consent. At least there is no software update suggested or available now.

After reboot (another 3 mins approx.), the watch is now English only (there is no other language setting behind the language option besides English available), and the Stryd data field is gone. Further more current pace is now roughly 40 s/km too quick, while lap pace is fine.

Should I reset the watch to factory settings, or are these known issues, that can be mitigated differently?

I accepted a software update for my 230 before my activity start yesterday. All three activities since then have been awry, with distances, locations and elevations all being wrong.
