Sticker/type of film peeling off in the back. This normal/ok? Other issues as well.

4 weeks old and it felt and looked like such a nice, clean and strong watch, but now the back is peeling off leaving a very sticky and messy substance in its place. This is happening around the HR area where the serial number is located. Also the battery drained almost completely overnight and a reset (light button held 15 seconds) seems to have solved that, but also the HR monitor green light was not working and had to do a reset again and go to settings to clear that up. In less than 20 hours this watch really acted up. I also have firmware 7.70 installed.

Should I deal with garmin for a refund/replacement? Any workarounds or anything to look out for in the near future?

Any insights/opinions is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
  • Sticker peeling off is quite common with garmin watches and should cause no problems by itself.

Whether you should return your watch due to other issues is really up to you. In my personal opinion if a watch needs a factory reset done regularly just to make things work as expected, then this is not acceptable.

That is great to know about the sticker, thanks tmk2.

Is holding the light button for 15 seconds the true factory reset? So far I have only done it once, but today I am going to put the watch through the same trial as before when I found it with its battery almost drained less than 15 hours after a long run.

I completely charged it yesterday morning and now after 20-21 hours its only down to 92% battery life which it should be considering I did not do any activities. I'll see what today and tomorrow's outcome brings.

    No.

Well, no. But for me it actually makes little difference. If you have to reboot your watch because of software glitches once or twice a year, then one can probably live with it. But if it happens regularly then it becomes annoying and there is no sensible excuse for it.

That said, luckily, I had to reboot my 18 months old FR735XT only once or twice so far. So if your experience is significantly worse, then I'd consider returning, or at least replacing the watch.

I have 60 days to exchange a defective piece of merchandise from the store in which I purchased this from. It was the Running Room and I live in Ontario, Canada. Problem is that when I was shopping there the store seemed to only have used 235s and I had to have the guy call around for a new one. If all else fails I will contact Garmin directly.

I fully charged the watch on Sunday morning and it is currently at 85% which I think is pretty good. I also did a 40 minute run in the afternoon today. One thing I noticed that was different about the watch today is the green light seems significantly weaker and is even pulsling/blinking really fast. After a run I usually take it off and give it a good wash/rinse and let it dry before I head out the door again and everytime I lift the thing the green light goes off instantly in an alert manner. Now its very slow during any movement and not reading my HR as quickly as before when I strap it on my wrist.

Also, thanks for the way to factory reset ASmugDill.
