235 freezing up!!!

Hi,

Just recently (I think after the 7.70 update) my 235 has started to freeze on random screens. The unit becomes unresponsive and usually ends with me holding the power button in for 25 secs until the screen goes fuzzy and then turns off. I contacted Garmin and they have sent me a refurbished 235 with 7.60 software installed. I used it for a couple of runs with no issues and then i got the prompt to update to 7.70. So I updated and now i have the same issues as before!

This cant just be happening to me as its now the second unit that is exhibiting the same issues! I then upgraded to the beta 7.73 and its worse than before.

Any ideas about what is happening here? Can i down grade to 7.6 to see if that will solve my problems?

Please help!!
  • Maybe it's caused by watchface/datafield/app.
  • smithyspider, have you tried resetting the device to factory defaults, and then recording a number of timed running activities with it over a number of days, all without installing or using any Connect IQ data fields (or watch apps to use instead of the factory-installed activity profiles)? Carmen_F may be onto something there, so the best way to test whether there's something faulty in the hardware and/or the basic functionality of the firmware is to remove aftermarket CIQ apps from the operating environment.
  • Hi, Sorry for the delay. I have been travelling with work. I have no aftermarket apps installed on the watch. The watch was OK for a week or so but today its started playing up again. The watch vibrates then freezes (Time is static) when i press a button it takes an age to respond. When it unfreezes the time catches up then freezes again and so on... Really annoyed as i keep resetting and losing all the watch data.

    • The same thing is happening to my garmin 235. It freezes and the time keeps stopping. Did you manage to sort your watch out. I've not updated anything neither. Do I take it back to store or contact Garmin. Only 2 months old. Any help would be appreciated.

It appears this is a common issue. I had one was replaced under warranty (5month old) for similar issues. I plugged it into the laptop and it had an error log text file which I sent to Garmin support. Refurbished one delivered today, it has exactly the same issue after just a few hours of use. It has used 26% of its battery in 4 hours and lost 3 hours in time. Reburbed unit running version 8.00. Awaiting a call from Garmin.
