Tracking indoor rowing workouts?

Hey!

I normally use a F5X which has a built-in mode for indoor rowing that works great. I have to use a F235 for a few weeks due to repair of the F5X. Obviously the F235 watch is more running-focused, but still, is there any clever way to track rowing workouts in a simple and practical manner?
  • I use the ERG IQ App in GC. Works great with a Concept 2 Rower. There are other third party ones there as well.

Ah, I know of that app, I should have mentioned I don't have a compatible Concept 2-rower, making it unusable. Other than that I can't really find anything but a data field in regards to rowing that is compatible with the 235. However, I might have overlooked something.
  • Stroke rate is possible but not very practical. Power is more difficult as FR235 doesn't support it even for cycling. Might be best to take a photo of the data on the screen of the rower after your workout, unless there is some other comms available. What rower is it?

If you are really desperate for stroke rate data you might be able to improvise something with a bike cadence sensor on the seat and a magnet somewhere on the rail. Bear in mind that bike cadence doesn't register below 20 rpm so you will need to make the magnet pass the sensor twice every stroke or it will time out. Obviously your reading on the FR235 will be double your actual stroke rate. You could try using this app instead of the cycling profile to get cadence.

The rower is dumb in the sense that it doesn't speak with other devices. It does give me the distance, average stroke rate and average power though. It's just a matter of manually adding it into an activity afterwards, which I'm used to with distance and power already. Won't get the stroke rate/heart rate overlay as I do with the F5X (the stroke counting is really excellent), but at least better than nothing :) I'll give it a go and see how it works out.
