Forerunner 235 vs Vivoactive3

So I want to make the plunge to a Garmin device. I was all set to get the forerunner 235, then the Vivoactiv33 showed up.

Has anyone here had experience with the 235 and wanted to upgrad to the vivoactive3?

If not are you happy with the 235?

What features are lost or gained? I did the product comparison, but I havent had experience with either product to know what each thing does.

I want to use it for running.

I am coming from a Fitbit Charge Hr. While I am happy with the running tracking, I am disappointed with the sleep tracking and evn more disappointed in the build quality.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Larry
  • I ordered a VivoActive 3 to replace the 235 that I broke. (See photo in this thread.) It's supposed to arrive today, but I won't get to open it until Christmas.

    I expect to:
    • Gain accuracy in heart rate data during runs and gain around-the-clock heart rate monitoring, both due to the one-generation-newer optical sensor,
    • Have a somewhat nicer looking watch to wear all day,
    • See more feature additions in the future, since it's a newer device, and
    • Be annoyed by the limitation that all activity screens must have the same number of items on them.

I prefer to 235. All physical buttons. For me, its easier when running to navigate with them instead of having to swipe on the screen
  • I'm keeping an open mind on the touchscreen vs. physical buttons. I liked the touch bezel on the Forerunner 405, as it made it very easy to switch screens while running. Ray Maker, OTOH, hated the 405 interface, for much the same reason.
