I have been having the same problems with my Garmin 235 and my iPhone 8. The steps that I take to get it to work are:
    1. On the Forerunner 235, access the Menu: 'Pair Smartphone'
    2. On the Garmin Connect Mobile application, hit '+' to add the device, select Forerunner 235, and go through the menus until it is ready to pair.
    3. On the Forerunner 235, start pairing.
    4. On the Garmin Connect Mobile application, start pairing.
    5. On the Garmin Connect Mobile application, it says that it has found the 235, and asks if I want to pair with it. I select "Yes".

Then for me, it goes into an endless loop of not pairing with the device, no matter what. Frustration ensues.

To solve the problem, I reboot my iPhone 8.

Turning the Bluetooth off on the iPhone, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back on does not solve the problem for me.
Turning the Airplane mode on, waiting a few seconds, and turning it back off does not solve the problem for me.
Rebooting my Forerunner 235 does not solve the problem for me.

I have to hold down the power button, hit the slider to power off the iPhone, and then turn the iPhone back on.

Then I go through steps 1-5 that I outlined above.

This seems to happen with every iPhone O.S. update. *sigh* I have another iPhone update waiting to be installed on my iPhone now. *double sigh*

I hope this helps you. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, wherever you are.
  • Is your iPhone running ios11? Garmin screwed up something and now synchronizing frequently stops working. Garmin in turn is weakly blaming Apple but users were reporting this problem to Garmin back when ios11 was in beta giving Garmin plenty of time to resolve the issue and besides the Garmin app has long suffered with bluetooth problems that have rendered the smart app useless. Garmin was saying that ios11.1.1 and later 11.1.2 would fix the problem but no dice.

Regardless....According to Garmin support you need restart your iPhone to workaround sync errors and have no need to mess with bluetooth pairings.

I have the new iPhone X and cannot pair with my Forerunner 235. The phone finds the device but they will not pair. I've tried all of the above but still no success
