Can't start activity

Hi,

Today I've faced an issue in my garmin forerunner 235, after getting GPS signal and select my workout under the calendar, I couldn't start the activity, every time I clicked the start nothing happened.
I couldn't even turn off the watch, it was really annoying, in workaround I had to reset the settings of my watch to restart it.

Did someone already faced the same issue? What do you suggest to do in this case? I won't be resetting the watch every time this happens.
  • Are you on the latest firmware? If you can replicate the issue then email Garmin and let them know. If not I doubt it will happen again as I haven’t seen another report of this happening.

I'm having the exact same problem by the sounds of it.

Holding down the light/power button to turn off the watch does nothing, nor does holding down the up arrow button. Also can't start an activity (activity button does nothing after choosing e.g. run) and when I go to pair my watch with the Garmin Connect App it doesn't get past the 'initialising' stage.

Super annoying, I'm going to wait until the battery dies (just charged it today, ugh) and see if it is better when it wakes up. I've had a bunch of problems with the Bluetooth in the past.

    Edit: Same watch. Forerunner 235.

SOLUTION: I plugged it back into the computer and it seemed to restart and now everything is back to normal. I can turn it off, can start an activity, can connect it to my phone, etc. :)

Hi, I know this was ages ago, but did you wait for your watch to die and then charge it or did you just start charging it again?  I'm having the exact same problem of not being able to start an activity or turn off my Forerunner 235.  Thanks!

  • I'm having this problem today, did you find an actual fix?

  • I've been having the same problem with my 235 for the last couple of months.  Each time, I have to reset the watch by holding in the three single buttons (not the up-down buttons) for a few seconds until the watch shuts down.  After a little while, a dab on the start and it starts up and behaves normally - until the next time.  I'll try always charging via the Garmin app on my PC but I'm not holding my breath.  I've had the watch for a few years and this is a new issue.

  • Since writing the above, I've googled for resetting the watch and the above remarks need amending.  They work but this link is a clearer explanation.  www.youtube.com/watch
