Activity Tracker Turns Itself on while riding motorcycle

Hi, this is my first post here, I've had the 235 for about a year I think. I'm having consistent issues with the activity tracker turning itself on.

When I ride my Harley, the 235 observes vibrations from riding my Harley and considers that motion/movement and count steps/activity, and that makes sense to me.

Here's the problem: I turn off the activity tracker so it doesn't count false steps/activity while I'm riding. However, it will turn itself on after a period of time/miles, which appears to be caused by noticing activity? I have checked this/watched it, my jacket, my glove is NOT hitting any buttons, the clock face is always on.

Questions:
  • Is this a known bug?
  • If not a bug, is there a reason for this behavior?
  • If not a bug, could a filter be used to filter out this anomalous behavior? The vibration/step count is WAAAAAY too fast/high for a human being to do...could there be a validation function that says something like, "this is not humanly possible, do not count"?
Thanks, glad to be here!

Cheers!
  • Here's what I think is happening:

You turn off activity tracking on your watch, but not in Garmin Connect. Each time your watch gets synced with Garmin Connect the activity tracking setting on your watch gets overwritten by Garmin Connect.
Many users find this behaviour confusing and undesired, but it's not a bug technically.
  • Hmm, well that's interesting...I'll have to cut the Bluetooth off and see if that fixes the problem. That really stinks because I like to still get notifications on my wrist of messages and such from my phone. I definitely see this behavior confusing and undesired! :) Thanks!
  • What tmk2 is saying is: make sure you turn your activity tracking off on your watch AND on Connect. If you only turn it off on your watch, Connect will overwrite your watch and turn it back on when synced. If you turn it off in Connect as well as your watch, your activity tracking should stay off. No need to turn Bluetooth off.

  • Yes, I get that. For me, it would be just as easy to cut the BT and the activity tracker in one place (the watch) than go into the app and turn it off, because I'll want to turn it on as soon as I'm done riding. Just wish the watch setting would override or push the off condition to the app. No biggie. Thanks!
