Ridiculously Inaccurate Pace

Hi there,

For about 2 weeks now my pace when running is bonkers. Ranges from 4:50 up to 8:00 and everything in between, constantly (one second it's 5:00, the next second it's 6:20). It's driving me nuts. I know my pace is consistent. Is there anything I could try, or should I return it for a replacement (bought from Amazon in January). I've lost all faith in this one. (It did an update pre-today's run).

TIA

If you are finding that your overall/average pace for the run is OK then any errors in the "Pace" metric are likely due to short-term GPS inaccuracies. The "Pace" you see on your screen is smoothed over a very short period.

Have you considered using "Lap Pace" instead or alternatively download a datafield from Garmin Connect IQ that smooths your pace over a longer period?
  • +1 on above. Lap pace is far better than current pace. Current pace is too erratic. If you are doing track work 200-800m+ repeats just use the basic stop watch function or consider a foot pod.
  • GPS wont be accurate enough for track work anyway in my experience.
So the pace will be out.
Check the track on an activity ona track and it will be cutting bits and taking the long route at various points. So even lap pace wont be great.

The use of "Lap Pace" is a separate matter from running on a track. If you have your lap distance set to 1km then displaying "Lap Pace" simply gives you your average pace for the current km, that's all.
  • On a track turn off autolap and press the lap key as you start each lap. Lap pace will then be only averaged over 400m

Yes but there is no way of telling the watch that the lap is 400m.
So if it measures it at 370m the lap pace will be wrong. As it will if it measures it at 430m.

    Many thanks for the replies.
  • hello

i have been using my 235 for over 3 years now (starting early 2017) and it no longer displays my pace correctly

i'd be running on a treadmill at approximately 6:20 pace but find the watch displaying a 9:20 to 11:20 pace.

This has been going on for over 6 months now , in addition to the inability of my watch to detect any sleep at all.

i tried resetting the watch several times and i was wondering if garmin watches are meant to be replaced every few years or so.

    any help is appreciated
