Arrows on left side of watch face ?

Hi !

Tonight I had to plug my FR230 to my PC to upload my activities as - once again - Garmin Connect Mobile doesn't work anymore on my Windows Phone.

After the synching was done, arrows appeared on the left side of the time screen, same style as the arrows that we have on the stepcounter.

What is that ?

Cheers
Jay
  • It's the "move bar". You have to go for a short walk or something to clear it.
  • Hi

    Thank you.

I'd never noticed that because the move alarm has always been off on my watch but for some reason this setting always gets reset when reinstalling GCM and resynching the watch to the phone. I forgot to set it off.

    Cheers.

  • Turn it off in Garmin Connect on the interweb. It's under device settings.

I strongly suspect Garmin did something recently to Garmin Connect that caused the ‘authoritative’ copy of the device settings in the cloud for my FR630 to be ‘reset’ to 12-hour clock, Activity Tracker enabled and Move Alert enabled, which apparently is Garmin's ‘factory’ default combination. I haven't either updated or reinstalled the Garmin Connect Mobile app since v3.11.1 on my Android handset.
  • Hi !

Yes, everytime you reinstall GCM, it resets some settings on the watch because it considers you are registering a new watch.

    Cheers.

  • Ah, I see. You're right… sorta.

It's the pairing of the Garmin wearable device that resets those settings. I didn't reinstall Garmin Connect Mobile, but I did remove the device pairing (from the instance of Garmin Connect Mobile app running on just one of my Android devices, even though I left the pairing untouched on another device) and then added it anew.

I'm really surprised that Garmin Connect doesn't just remember the settings for a particular device (identifiable by its serial number), if it presumes to hold the authoritative/master copy of the device settings and routine overwrites manual changes the user makes to the settings made on the device.

Of course, in the case where someone removes and reinstalls the app (which doesn't change the device settings), the logical next step is to add the device pairing (which changes the settings).

Thanks for helping me clear up my understanding of how it ‘works’!

    Hi !

This is exactly how I thought it worked (I guess each device has its own serial number), but obviously it is not. After deleting a device and repairing it in GCM, if you go to the online version of GC on a computer you can see the "Congratulations for your new Forerunner device" band. AND the activity/sport page layout is reset, too, and you have to "redesign" it. What is strange, though, is that the custom name you give to the watch is not reset.

There are such strange things in the way Connect works. It's like the language handling. It keeps going back to English and then to French, regularly.

    Cheers.
