Setup for battery life

Hi guys,
Hope you all good.
I'm new to the fitness/activity tracking devices world and I just bought the forerunner 235 since I'm mostly running and biking.
I read/watched a few reviews before (Rizknows and DC Rainmaker were the best) and I kinda knew in advance that the battery life was not impressive.

All that to say I want to check with you guys, from your experience, what would be the best setup to optimize battery life and usage. I'm trying to get to 4 days before charging and so far my configuration is as follows:

- Bluetooth on (for sms, calls and Slack notifications - not emails since I use Mail and not gmail app) but on my iPhone the app is closed (so I don't have any data for weather and calendar unfortunately)
- When I'm on an activy: GPS+glonass
- HR monitor 24/7
- No custom facewatch or app
- No connected device to the watch

What do you think? Any advice?

Thanks!
  • I'm not sure where you read that this watch's battery life was not impressive. I think it is fantastic ... one of it's nest features! Every Mon-Fri I run 5K after work (GPS only ... no need for GloNass for me), so that's about 2.25 hours GPS. I have notifications turned on (email, text, phone), 24/7 HR tracking, steps, sleep tracking, custom watch face (Optimus). I also have no other external BT devices

A full charge lasts me 7 days! I charge on Sunday evening and by the next Sunday when I charge again, I still have 12-15% left.

    Max
  • from your experience,_…‹snip›… I'm trying to get to 4 days before charging and so far my configuration is as follows:

As a rule of thumb (in my experience with my FR235 over a period of twelve months),
    • Bluetooth enabled, Smart Notifications enabled, Activity Tracking enabled and Wrist Heart Rate enabled in everyday use ⋍ 10%(±1%) battery consumption every 24‑hours
    • GPS enabled (without GLONASS), Wrist Heart Rate enabled and no ANT+ sensors connected for outdoor running ⋍ 10%(±1%) battery consumption every hour

what would be the best setup to optimize battery life and usage.

    • Set the backlight timeout to the minimum that it takes you to read what's on a data screen at a glance while running.
    • Disable wrist turn as a backlight trigger if you don't need it. (I don't like running at dusk or in the dark, so it doesn't make much sense to enable the backlight by wrist turn; if I really want the backlight to come on, I can just press the button.)
    • Using Smart recording instead of Every Second recording may save a little bit of battery power (but not by all that much).
    • Don't enable GLONASS unless you really ‘need’ or want it.
  • Awesome! Thanks a lot for the feedback guys!
