FR235 Battery Drain Then Sudden Death

Morning All,

Had my FR235 at christmas and it's been great up until about 3 weeks ago. I was getting about a week and a half battery life out of it but then started losing 20-30% charge per day so didn't last a week. I did a hard reset over the weekend and I raised a query on monday (no response so far) and fully charged it but it's still losing charge quickly. This morning it was ticking over ok, but down to 49% and when I got to work I noticed the screen was blank.

I tried turning it on again and the screen flickered a bit (like a negative view of what would have been on the screen) but then went off again. I've tried a soft and hard reset since and nothing, I still get the flickering when I press and hold the power button for a couple of seconds but that's it.

Anyone had anything like this happen before? I've sent a return request as with the drain thing I think there must be a fault with the unit, but I'm wondering if this is something that I have done so I can try and stop it happening again.

I feel like I've lost an arm, I've had a smartwatch on constantly for the last 3 years and I'm not liking being without it.

Yes. I've seen the battery level drop about 40% over the span of a couple of hours, with no GPS or WHR tracking and no watch app running during that time. (I'd given my FR235 to my girlfriend for tracking her runs two or three weeks before that, but she doesn't wear it at other times, never bothered with installing Connect‑IQ apps or even a custom watch face on it, and so we were at a loss as to why the battery was draining so quickly.)

A reset to factory defaults fixed it for us.
  • Flip it over. Are the green lights on all the time? If so, that's likely why your battery is draining so fast. I believe this is a sign of a faulty watch which usually ends up in a replacement from Garmin. I'd contact them if this is the case.

Ahhh, that might be it. The lights were on every time I took it off unless it was plugged in. Maybe that was the issue.

It's fully dead now, so it's going back to Garmin over the weekend, and I've dug out my old Pebble Time, which is showing the Gamin up quite a bit in terms of user friendliness. It's a shame Fitbit killed them.
