Only Shows RUN INDOOR

I got my 235 after the outdoor temps dropped, and have only done treadmill running (the the footpod).

A few days ago it was nice outside, so I decided to try my first outdoor run with the watch.

I turned ON the GPS. I pushed the running button, but only saw "RUN INDOOR".

I tried scrolling around, but could not really find anything that would allow me to choose a "RUN OUTDOOR".

So, I started my run (while also using my phone and MapMyRun app. The distances seem to track OK, and I can see it used the GPS because it showed a MAP, as well as elevation changes in the CONNECT APP.)

At the end of the run, I tried so set my vO2 max (because it was my first outdoor run). It errored, saying "You need to run outdoors!" Bummer. It was strange the way it saved it in the CONNECT APP. Normally my RUNS will show "Treadmill Run". This time it showed "[cityname] Treadmill Run".

So now I'm trying to understand how to get this to give me anything other than "RUN INDOOR".

I enable the GPS, and it shows 5 full bars, and provides other indicators that the GPS is working (including the map and elevation changes mentioned above).

I've gone into ACTIVITY PROFILES and confirmed that RUN is enabled.

Any other suggestions?

  • There is a way to hide/unhide activities buried somewhere in the settings. Early on when I got my 235 I hid the Bike Outdoor activity and recently found a need for this function and poked around until I found out to unhide it. Unfortunately I didn't write down how I did it but think it was under the Activity Settings. So, start poking around, eventually you'll find it.
  • Have you tried pressing the Runner Button and then scrolling UP? That's how you change sport profiles.

    He has already reviewed that.

You're mistaken. Activity Settings pertain to the particular activity profile. The O.P.'s complaint is that he cannot access the (outdoor) Run profile.

    Perform a factory reset?

Same problem here, don’t know what to do.....

  • I have the same problem and just found it: SETTINGS/ACTIVITY PROFILES- somehow I had hidden the Run profile.

  • I had the same problem.  Only indoor run was available as a running profile. It was not that run was not enabled it seemed to be deleted from my watch as an option.  After several sessions of poking around I found that the  gps was disabled.  Once I enabled gps the run option reappeared magically! Hope this helps.
