Could I use the online fitfile fixer app. and then re-import to overwrite the existing .fit file in order to fix the HRM errors - basically trimming off the silly high ones that are def. wrong?
Yep you will have delete the old activity from your Garmin account I believe to import the new one. If I remember correctly the Garmin stats (avg, max HR) for the run will not re-calculate and be wrong still. easy enough to update those fields manually (avg is kinda tough... but can use the Garmin Mobile App graph to find avg over the 'good sections'...then lower it a bit to account for the first bit of warmup (if thats where the bad HR data is).
I often re-import the corrected fit file into Strava which then will give me an updated/correct 'Suffer Score'. I believe it also re-calculates the average HR.
I use the fitfiletool.com website (free) - works good...only issue is it only removes spikes above a certain level... but will leave a pretty high plateau still. Wish it had the option of just removing a section - just highlight it and it would wipe the data and go from the last known good value....to the next known good value with a trend line.
Thanks for that, I'll let you know how I get on. Probably be a couple of weeks or so.
The worst ones are the crazy 148s when I'm sitting watching tv and I know it's about 43....I get the impression they get less crazy by the day, so it's a learning thing.
