Problem with 235 and Garmin waranty !!!!

Hello,
I am from Romania and I have an unpleasant problem with Forerunner 235 and Garmin
1. I bought the watch in US in December 2016
2. In Romania the device worked for 2 weeks. The device was turn OFF and cannot be turn ON!!!!!!!. The device is totaly BLACK (conected to charger , PC or standalone)
3. Garmin was contacted online
4.They told me to contact Garmin Romania to replace/repair the watch.
5.Garmin Romania refused to exchange/repair watches purchased from other sources and didn’t offer other options.
5.I contacted Garmin International, again
6.Garmin doesn’t have a solution for International Warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Try another charger before you do anything else.
    If the battery is totally flat it can take a lot of juice to wake it up.
    Buy a high power one if you need to, my guess is that is all that is wrong.

    I tried with 2 laptops , 1 PC and a Samsung charger.The watch remain black... All this charger worked before. When I stop the watch the battery was 90%.
  • How long did you leave it connected to each? I suggest over night on each just to be sure

    I left on charge all night but not start.

    I cannot communicate with watch. The PC not detect device.
  • my advice is the same.
    Buy a high power charger and give it a good charge.

    Nomatter how many PCs and phone chargers you use it is unlikely to be enough to wake it.

    My FR235 has some weird cracks exactly on top of the optical sensor(above the diodes) and is 13 months old now... with no warranty! I wanted to sell it and buy the new F5, but of course no one is crazy enough to buy a defective watch, so I wonder why should we do so?
    First you give a crazy amount of money to become a beta tester for months and finally you end up with an overly expensive toy made of cheap materials, falling apart by itself, and you are literaly made a fool for giving your money.
    Thanks Garmin, but never again.

    I'm actually pretty happy with my FR235, and was so close to purchasing a FR630 (bundled with HRM-Run) last week for my girlfriend now that she's started running, were it not for the fact that she's highly resistant towards the idea of wearing a running watch.

    Depending on consumer laws in the applicable jurisdiction, a consumer may be able to make a claim under statutory warranty (e.g. in accordance with the Australian Consumer Law) even after the manufacturer's warranty period has expired.

    Expecting to recoup a non-trivial part of the purchase cost, by selling a device after the manufacturer's warranty period has expired, to fund a gadget upgrade ought never be relied upon in my personal opinion.

    Was it defective even during the manufacturer's warranty period, such that you would have made a claim and returned it for refund?

    You can always choose to buy models that have been on the market for two or more years. Why are you even considering buying what's new and unproven (or haven't had the time for users to whinge about what broke just after the manufacturer's warranty period has expired), if you're wary of that?

    What do you mean by “finally”? Isn't that the same ”toy” you got on Day One of your purchase, made of the same lightweight materials, and the only thing that really changed since then is your perception?

    Ok, actually I'm so pissed with my FR235, that I'll break the No.1 rule of the internet and I'll start an argument with a person with much better english than me.
    Of course it's completely normal for people to have different opinions and maybe I had some bad luck with my unit, but there are other factors that you should consider also.

    As my "neighbor" from post No.1 noted, in some countries once you give your money, after that you're stuck with what you have. I live south from Romania, a little bit closer to hell. :) At least I used mine unit for 13 months and it's still working, unlike his, but when you invest and "commit" in a product, which costs around a monthly salary (and even 2 minimal monthly salaries in my country) you expect that it will last for a while. Without getting cracks by itself.
    So what happens is, you write to garmin international, they send you to their local distributor, who doesn't even give a **** for your problems.

    That's your opinion. Some of us are more minimalistic and don't like stacking up on old equipment, once you have upgraded. And the fact that you can't get less then 40% of the original price of the unit 1 year after the purchase to fund the new device, speaks enough for itself. If I had bought a Seiko or different watch, even in 10 years you wont find cracks on the device and it will keep the same price! (I know that they don't have nothing in common and are very ddiffereent class of watches. But I'm just giving an example)

    As most normal people do, you don't check at the back of your watch for ANY unexpected cracks... I have no idea how they formed, the device was never hit or dropped, ESPECIALLY on it's back. It is a defect, in my opinion due to cheap materials .

    So, maybe when you are buying a new smartphone, you're going the buy the Galaxy S5, because "it has been around and it is proven"? That's a load of BS, I have paid for my product and I can "whinge" as much as I want, especially when I'm not happy with what I end up.

    My previous watch was the Suunto Core All Black. Wore it for more than 5 years it had seen hell and It had it's problems, some of the functions stopped working, but it's still alive and kicking and I love that watch and I have given it to a relative. There are still no cracks on it, as you might figure.
    And don't mention the "lightweight materials", cause the same sensor was used in other not so lightweighted garmin watches.

    I hate whining and complaining on the internet, but all that my fr235 gave me was frustration and it will be my first and last garmin sports watch. I'll be happy if I can save someone from all the negative emotions I had. Thank you.
