Unable to set resting HR to 7-day average

In the My Stats > User Profile > Heart Rate Zones > Resting HR menu, there are two options; Use Average and Set Custom.

Neither seem to be working properly for me. No matter if I choose Use Average or Set Custom, whenever I then sync the watch with Garmin Connect Mobile on my phone, the value is overwritten with something different.

What that different is depends on how my zones are configured in Garmin Connect.
I had Running, Cycling and Secondary zones configured.
Running and Secondary were both set the same, to % of LTHR. Cycling was set to % of HRR, and I had entered a value for the resting HR here. This value was getting synced to the watch, no matter what I set on the watch.
When I changed my cycling zones to be % of max HR instead, now a null/blank value (shown as '--') is synced to the watch, but again overriding whatever is set on the watch.

Anyone else have this problem? or found a way to make it work as expected?
  • Overwriting the value of the Resting HR setting on your watch if and when there is one set in Garmin Connect (irrespective of whether you edited it in a browser or one of the Garmin Connect Mobile apps) is pretty much what we expect. You're not going to get two-way syncing of the RHR value (i.e. device to GC, or GC to device, depending on where it was last edited) – or, in fact, just about any value in the settings and/or user profile; each value tend to be ‘synced’ in one particular direction only, effectively overwriting what's on the receiving end upon syncing.

Garmin Connect is where you want to be setting/editing the Resting HR value as the source of truth for it. If you want to be able to change it while you're away from the computer, then either bring a Internet-connected mobile device with you with which to pair/connect/sync your Garmin device, or accept that you can change the RHR directly on the watch for that one run (or those few runs) you're going to do before syncing with GC next.
