Forerunner 235 won't turn on, won't charge and getting USB Accessories Disabled error

I've had my 235 since May with minimal problems aside from the usual once or twice weekly lock up on a notification screen.

This weekend, though, the watch decided to stop charging and instead I kept getting a Mac USB Disabled error. Thinking it was my Mac, I turned the watch off to conserve battery. A few minutes later, the watch turned back on (!) This went on a few times before it stayed off.

Watch won't turn on now, nor will it charge. I've tried three different Macs and a wall charger and getting the same error.

Before I take the watch back, is there something I'm doing wrong? I did leave the watch plugged into one of my Macs for a full 24 hours, hoping that it would charge, but no luck.

When a usb device appears to be using "too much power", usually there's a short circuit. Have you tried using other cables? Do those cables work with other devices? If it works, then by elimination, your watch could be the culprit.

Or, if you have a multitester, you can use that to check if your cables are shorted.

Is the 235 waterproof? I swam and it stopped working.
