Forerunner 235 GPS & Time issues

Hi there,

bought a Garmin Forerunner 235 on Friday 2nd Dec and was loving it up until yesterday. I tracked my first run yesterday (Dec 4) in the morning, a quick 4km to test the device out. About an hour later I noticed that the time was off by about an hour... then a few moments later (while sitting at a café) my steps went to 0.. then up to 33. The Garmin Connect app (I synced several times) stayed at 5222 steps... then eventually dropped to about 2000. At this point I hunted around forums for an answer - it looks like this watch picks up time via GPS.

So far I have done the following troubleshooting;

- Everything is the latest version, software updated.
- Synced with both Garmin Connect & Garmin Express
- Have powered cycled, soft reset & hard reset
- Have started different activities while outside to see if it will pick up GPS (minutes go by with nothing)
- Have attempted using GLONASS as well... nothing
- My partners VivoActive (bought same day) works just fine, picks up GPS in places I can't, etc.

From what I have seen online, everyone has said "oh well, just return your watch and you should be fine"... except there are multiple reports of people on their 2nd or 3rd watch without any joy. Before I go down that long and unrewarding path (or consider legal action if indeed this is a known defect and Garmin is knowingly selling a faulty product), is there ANYTHING AT ALL else I can do to attempt to get GPS to work? Otherwise I'm left with a GPS watch that can't track, doesn't display time or date, and consequently is useless. I very much want to use this watch and have picked the Garmin ecosystem believing it to be the best one out there - please don't prove me wrong.
  • Eventually got this to work after hard resetting the device again, removing it completely from my profile and then setting everything up again and re-adding the device. Went outside and GPS seems to be stable again.

    Will continue to monitor this. If it goes flakey or fails again might have to take further action.
