235 resets to previous day and random time

I've had my 235 for about 5 months. I have had an issue with it resetting to a previous day and a random time. I lose all the data I've accumulated for the current day. I have to turn the watch on and off several times, go outside and try to reconnect to GPS, and I often get an "updating" message but it doesn't seem like it ever updates. Has anyone had this problem, and is there a fix? It is very frustrating.
  • Sounds like your watch has performed a HARD RESET (Backlight button pressed and held until screen goes blank ... 15+ seconds). This will result in the loss of your steps and the date/time will be wrong when you restart. This has happened to me a few times during sleep ... I usually lock the watch before sleep now. The button may also have caught on a coat sleeve without you noticing it. Acquiring a GPS signal will get your date/time back. If this happens a lot, you may want to try locking the watch down - long press UP ARROW, then scroll to Lock Device.

    See https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?365030-Updating-crash-clock-time

Are you using the Artiface watch face? Or some other Connect‑IQ watch face and not the default Digital watch face?

    If so,

    and is there a fix?
Try switching to (and leaving it on) the Digital watch face, and see if the issue still occurs.

(Oh, and just for Max556: I don't really care whether someone prefers a different watch face, or just doesn't want to use the Digital watch face. Helping them circumvent a troubling issue is one thing, but guiding them to achieve satisfaction without compromise and avoiding what they don't want would be something very different. I care about the issue and not the person, irrespective of how he/she feels; it's nothing personal at all to me.)
  • The "updating" circles are due to the new "TrueUp" functionality that allows you to have 2 step trackers on the same account and switch between them whenever you want. I'm been testing this with a va-hr and 230 on the same account. When one device "syncs", you'll often see the "updating" circle on both, as the new steps come from one device, and are updated on the second device. (IMHO this should all be done silently in the background).

But the "updating" seems to be the root of a few issues. CIQ watchfaces can't (easily) crash a watch (a hard crash), but may be showing a symptom of something odd in the firmware. With things like Actiface, it's got a gazillion downloads, and I'm sure it isn't causing this problem, but may be impacted by it (I know Petr and know his work). I think people are looking at Actiface, only because it is such a well known and common watchface.

I run CIQ watchfaces all the time myself, and don't see the crashes, but I see the same weirdness with "updating" switching screens, etc, in native apps as I do on the watchface.
