Endless syncing of Garmin Forerunner 235

I have seen some old posts and tried to follow the advice in the forum, in particular, to delete the device and re-install it. It did not work. My device is stuck for hours in 'syncing mode'.
Can anybody help?

Hit the button for more details and see if it's this?

I had it yesterday. I think it may be an inability to download the file from Garmin. I'd try again after awhile.
  • Any Connect IQ apps installed?

If so try removing them and re-installing them. My experience has been that sometimes a firmware update on the watch will "break" a Connect IQ app and the solution is to remove/re-install the app. I'll also note that after the 6.30 update I had an issue with Garmin Express not showing the Sync operation as completing, it seemed like it was getting stuck at the half way point. However my desktop computer was giving a sync complete notification so I just ignored that glitch. About 2 weeks of doing this and then one morning the watch was back to completing the Sync operation in Express like normal. I have a hunch that there may have been an issue with Express that was "repaired" due to a computer re-boot brought about one of the endless Windows 10 updates or perhaps a back door update to Express we weren't informed about.

Further suggestions, re-boot your watch by powering it down and back up. Next, re-boot your computer by doing the same. Third, if you are getting all of your data transferred into Connect just ignore that incomplete Sync until the next "update".

PS; Not sure about anyone else but I am getting flat out fed up with all these updates. With Win 10 on both the laptop and home computer, my 235, and an Iphone SE it now seems as if not one single week goes by that something isn't getting "updated" and about 20% of the time something goes just a bit wrong with that update that requires turning every single device off and then on. I'm really starting to miss the days when if I remembered to wind my watch every morning it would keep good time for 30 years or more without being "updated".

Your old mechanical watch was not connected to the Internet or any other network. If you want to, you can disable Bluetooth on your FR235, and only charge it using a USB charger (as opposed to a USB port on your computer that may be connected to the Internet), and it will keep good time – because it sets the time by GPS, and not by any Internet time server or the cloud-based Garmin Connect service – without being updated. It's really entirely up to you whether you want what's running on your equipment to be up-to-date (hence needing to be updated from time to time).

Getting the world and environment to not change around you is not an option available to you, but then it never was, so there is nothing to be missed in that regard.
