FR230 dropping HR every 30 seconds (Scosche rhythm+)

This issue is really driving me insane - my FR230 is dropping the HR monitor about every 30 seconds and thus resets to 72 BPM every time. I am using the Scosche rhythm+ and have disabled Bluetooth from my FR230 while training as this helped with the problem for a while, but it is back with a vengeance with the 6.30 firmware.

Somethings is interfering, I get that, but what? Anyone have a clue? I am always training in the same room, nothing there has changed and the problem comes and goes. This happens both on the treadmill and while doing yoga, so it is not the movement.

Anyone venture a guess if it is the Scosche or the FR?

Edit - I've unpaired and repaired, restarted the FR - the only thing I haven't tried is formatting the FR. I don't have a secondary HR to test with, unfortunately.
  • I've used my 230 with 6.30 a few times. I use a Garmin HR transmitter on a Polar strap without issue.
  • What about if you go outside?

Presume you could also try connecting your Scosche to a mobile app like Strava or Wahoo Fitness to check it is actually working properly - well at least for BT connections. The one with your 230 would be over ANT+ of course.
  • I don't know what might be causing the problem. But I can confirm that the scosche is working fine for me also with latest fw on the FR.
How long do you have the scosche? Might it have an old fw? I remember having read in the comments of dcrainmaker's blog review of the scosche (like two years ago or so) that there were some issue in the fw causing constant value readings with some watches. It got fixed with a fw update.
When I bought mine 18 months ago, I double checked that my unit had the most recent one.
    Maybe your problem is related
  • Thank you all for the suggestions.

I found the culprit, and it seems to actually be the fact that I *have* used the Scosche via Bluetooth connected to my phone (SGS6, 6.0.1 Android). After turning Bluetooth off on my phone during my exercise, the Scosche stopped dropping out. I do not know why the phone apparently polling the sensor over bt causes the ANT+ to drop off. I did update the firmware when I bought it about a 6 months ago, but I do not have any i-devices at home, so it is rarely I get to check for updates.

Oh well, lesson learned, and I do not need bt on my phone while training. I think the randomness have been because sometimes I have my phone in range and sometimes not.

Very strange, as I use my FR230 and Rhythm+ all the time, with the scosche paired with my iPhone as well.
