Battery replacement

Hi,
I'd like to known if it's possible to replace Forerunner 235 battery.
I'm planning to buy a unit but this question is a crucial point.
300€ for a device and after (maybe) 1 year you need do buy new one ???
It will cost 25€/month ?
  • Why would you need a new battery after a year?? I've had my watch nearly a year and the battery is as good a my first charge. I expect it will be for years to come. I'm sure if you really needed it, Garmin could replace the battery, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be cheap.

    Max
  • You should get at least 500 charging cycles so if you charge it once a week it should last ten years

Yep - due to the way these batteries work, it doesn't charge and recharge the same area of the cell over and over again; it spreads the charge cycle around to different locations on the battery, so if you're talking about a 0-100% charge once a week, you're right. If you're like me and charge it when it hits 50% twice a week, I'd get the same 10 years as the person who charges it once a week from 0-100%.

It's pretty cool. It's also why phone batteries don't last nearly as long as something like this watch, as most people kill their battery in full once a day (or at least get it down to 30-40% once a day).

There's no possible way anyone could notice a seriously diminished battery in one of these watches after only one year, unless the watch was seriously abused in some way (left out in the desert sun all day, etc.)
  • Yes, my wife's first Forerunner from 2009.... battery was working just fine at the end of its life this spring. Replaced for features/looks... not battery after 7 years. My cheapo FR10 was replaced after a couple years due to bad cable and features... battery was fine.
  • My 235 is just over 3 years old - purchased in Feb 2019, and now the battery only last for about an hour max - so lots of short runs for me!!
