Minimum default calories burnt during sleep?

Hello!
Yesterday evening I left my 235 recharging and then forgot about it and went to sleep (around mid-night).
Briefly after waking up, picked up my 235 and to my surprise, I'd already burnt ~600 calories!
How's that possible if the watch didn't get any HR/sleep info?

Must I assume it records default calories burnt every day (or even hour?) based on sex/age/height/weight?
  • Anyone has this same "issue"?
  • Correct. Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) depends on height, weight, age and gender. As you move around you increase your calorie burn.

It is not uncommon for activity trackers to show a calorie burn while you're sleeping. The only time you stop burning calories is when your heart stops beating.

The only metric affected by charging your 235 overnight is sleep recording, if you are using your 235 to track sleep.
