stats on intervals

I created an interval training ( 3 * 1.500m with 4 minutes rest in between). During the training my Garmin shows me speed, etc for the current interval. After the training I would also like to see those stats (for example if my average speed or heartrate during the 1st interval was higher or lower than the third interval) but I can't find that in Garmin Connect (mobile). During setup I made an autolap each 500m so I only get feedback afterwards on each 500m but not the 1.500m in total (or another interval). I do see the 4 minute rest as a separate autolap in Garmin Connect Mobile.

So my question is: is it possible to get stats on each interval? A simple app as Runkeeper gives me this info so I would assume that Garmin can do this as well.
  • Don't think you can in any Garmin tool short of manually adding up the 3 500 sections.

If the 1500 stats are more than important the 500m splits perhaps you could turn off auto laps next time.

To have stats per interval. Turn off the Auto Laps ( as mentioned by TIMGROSE ). Thats my setting when doing intervals.

You can either a) turn off auto-laps (as some have already indicated), b) accept that your intervals are broken in sub-intervals, or c) use an app (such as Sporttracks) that allows you to remove lap indicators to re-join the sub-intervals. In older Garmin running devices (FR 610, for example), running an interval program disabled auto-laps; so the issue did not come up.

I find it's a mixed blessing that you can keep auto-laps on; for long intervals (3000m, 4000m...), I find the auto-lap at each km helps me both control pace using lap and instant pace, and review my pace control post-workout; but on shorter intervals that are still above 1km, I find it a nuisance. And of course I never remember to turn auto-laps off until I'm somewhere in the middle of the run... and then you can't turn it off anymore.

If I turn off auto laps do I need to hit the lap button or will the workout trigger the laps for me?

Each workout step is a separate lap, and upon satisfying the exit criteria (of having completed a particular distance or period of time) the watch will automatically start the next step/lap. You can also prematurely end the current workout step and move to the next one by pressing the Lap button.
  • Thanks for the response. Turned off autolap and the splits on connect were exactly what I was looking for.
