Garmin 230 doesn't show heart rate

My wife bought Garmin 230 with heart rate belt. On first running everything was perfect. But after couple of days clock stopped to show heart rate. We brought it back to shop, seller put rate belt on himself and it worked fine. On me heart rate monitor is working also fine. But on my wife it doesn't show heart rate.
We've tried to check her heart rate with my polar h7 and it was showing fine.
I've tried to change battery for new one, but it doesn't help.

What it can be?
  • Well sounds like the watch is working so you need to look at how it's positioned on your wife's wrist. You could try the opposite wrist to see if that then works?

it has separate heart rate belt - hrm3-ss. Sorry, forgot to write it.
  • Rather odd.
Can we assume your wife is wearing the HR strap so that the electrodes are actually touching her skin?
Is the HR actually showing as connected in Sensors & Accessories on her 230 when she puts it on? Presume it must do when you use the same equipment?

    humidify the HR sensors

Did you try to humidify the HR sensors ?
In winter I have to lick the HR sensors (I agree this is a bit gross) so the strap pick my heart rate.

Yes, the HR is connected. She puts belt on and clock shows that heart rate is missing, after she gives it to me and can put only sensors on my skin and clock starts to show my HR. It's very strange because first use everything was fine.

    She humidifies belt.

We test it together. She puts it on and after her I test in on myself. I guess that problem can be with her skin (but first time it was working fine).

Does she wears any devices or metallic items nearby like metallic screws after a bone fracture ?

I'm very disappointed with this situation. Polar h7 with runtastic sees her HR without any problem. And I have no idea what to do.
  • She is definitely alive, right? ;)

As mentioned further above, ask her to put some saliva on each of the 4 sensors using her finger. This will help with the connectivity.

Also, my wife had issues with one of hers every now and then. It turned out that her sports bra chest strap (around the bottom of the bra) was causing the HR strap to lift off her skin enough to stop the sensor working.
  • I asked Garmin about this. They suggested:

"As noted in the thread, wetting the strap usually helps with the skin impedance issue. However, to totally rule that out, it would be interesting to have her try wearing the strap for 10 minutes into her activity and then trying again to connect. By then she should be sweating enough that impedance isn’t the issue."

BTW I understand if you have started the timer, the watch won't look for ANT connections for more than a few minutes into the run. As such best to either start a new activity or, I think, stopping the timer does also enable searching again.
