Forerunner 235 - How to record a Gym session??

Former Member

I am a newbie to the 235 and have been using it to record runs, don't need cycle or swim.

I also want to use the 235 to record cardio and HIT sessions in the gym...
All I want to do is start the 235 at the beginning of the gym session and capture workout duration and heart rate zones then save the workout as a 'Gym Workout' in the calendar.
I can then see my weekly Run/Gym performance and frequency on the calendar.

It does not appear intuitive how to capture a Gym session.
I select the 'Other' mode and this seems to record the duration and HR zone data, which is good.
On the -ve side:
1. The GPS is still seeming to record this as a run and map my movement around the Gym.
2. I can't find a way to create a specific Gym workout profile and name it something sensible like 'Gym Workout'
3. The workout just gets recorded as 'Other' and an named based on the area location I was in....

Help appreciated..
Thanks
  • If your indoors, I see no need for GPS to be turned on. You can turn GPS ON/OFF for each activity in the settings (except RUN INDOORS). You can also rename and re-categorize your workout on the App or Connect website, and depending on which category you change it too, you can edit some of the data (if necessary).

  • I use my FR235 almost daily for gym workouts. I use the 'Other' activity profile with the GPS set to 'off'. (You can set this option in the Activity Settings on the watch.) Once I have saved and uploaded the workout, I go into Garmin Connect, then Activities, select the activity, and then change it to 'Strength Training' or 'Elliptical' or whatever (there's lots of choices... including Wingsuit Flying! haha). I've attached a snapshot so you can see how it looks on Garmin Connect when I'm done.
  • Same here - Like to record Zumba!

I'm the same as the OP. I run mostly but do the occasional Zumba class (it's a much more intense workout than you would think!)

I've been recording the sessions as "Other" to capture HR but I'd really like Garmin to add a generic "Aerobic Class" category under Other. I have no idea why much less common (but cool sounding) sports such as wake boarding and wing suit gliding are in there but not something as relatively common as an Aerobics class.

(BTW That's Zumba - Dancing around to latin music, shaking your butt and doing squats and lunges. Not "Zuma" ....what my husband keeps getting confused about thinking I'm spending an hour being an aztec frog spitting balls at targets...)
