VO2 Max calculation

Is the VO2 Max recalculated after every run? Can yout set it up that way?

I haven't had my 235 for very long but there are gaps in the VO2 trend graph for days that I have actually run. Is that normal?

  • Yes - it is computed every run but you may not always get a value depending on what you do.

    So if you do a run where there is not an obvious period of steady state running above 70% max HR for at least 10 minutes then you may not get one that day.
    This can be hard to tell on the watch as if it can't compute a value for a particular run it will just still show you the current value on the watch.

    You may also not get a value if the HR "screws up" and get spikes over your max HR or your max HR is just too low and you go over it.

    As far as I understand it doesn't necessarily recalculates after each run but does use information from each run to adjust the VO2Max where necessary... So in that sense it does recalculate but only updates if necessary (hope this makes sense).

    Which VO2 trend graph are you talking about btw? I only have the reports graph (with 4-week, 6month, 12 month) but that simply connects the dots. Is there something else I'm missing? (Interested to see ;) )
  • Doing weekly or biweekly hard tempo runs (Warmup, 10-40 minutes at ~10k pace, cooldown) are a good option for double checking score. If you can possibly repeat a similar course that would help ensure some sort of consistency as well (probably preferably flatish course with cool weather)

    Weather, elevation, hills, illness, caffeine and stress will all effect your HR at a given pace - so keep that in mind if your Vo2 max results seem a bit off...
