Time format and units changes after synchronisation MyFitnessPal, Connect and FR 235

I have found a defect in my Garmin Forerunner 235 in combination with MyFitnessPal and Garmin connect.

Configuration:
  • Garmin Forerunner 235 with Software version 4.70 (a172515)
  • Samsung Galaxy S5 with Android 6.0.1 (same problem with former Android version)
  • Garmin Connect Version 3.8.0.1
  • MyFitnessPal Version 5.13

Problem:
After adding an entry e.g. coffee for breakfast it will synchronize this entry with my Garmin connect Account. After that there is a synchronization process with my Garmin Forerunner 235 watch. After the synchronization is finished it will change the time format and some Units on my Forerunner 235 Watch.

In detail (German language and metric units are pre-set on my watch, on my Garmin connect portal / App and in my MyFitnessPal App):

• Time format will change from 24h to 12h format
• Distance format will change from kilometer to miles
• Pace / Speed will change from kilometer to miles
• Weight will change from kilogram to pound
• Height will change from centimeter to feet

This is very annoying because I have to change the settings back several times a day.

Is there anyone who can provide a solution for this MyFitnessPal integration issue?

Thanks a lot and greetings from Germany,
riebinho
  • It's not Myfitnesspal! It's a bug...

I too have this same issue all of a sudden, and so does my husband on his 235. I use MFP he does not. In Garmin connect>Device>settings the units reset to miles and the time format to 12 hour as soon as you leave the screen.

This is bloody annoying - please fix this Garmin :(
  • Same problem here... any solutions? (using beta 7.32)
  • Hello
I have the same problem too.
    Beta 5.07
  • I have the same problem, but only when syncing with my phone. It does not happen when syncing from my computer (using usb). I'm from Norway, so seeing my 235 using miles, pounds, feet and 12 hour clock is frustrating. I'm going to disable bluetooth on my watch until this is fixed and just sync from my computer once a day.

Also, shouldn't the watch be the authorative source of settings? If you set something manually on the watch, I see no reason as to why the connect software should mess with those settings (unless told explicitly to do so).

Edit: It does indeed happen when syncing with Express from a computer, as well. Please fix this, Garmin!

Edit 2: I found the culprit for my problem. It seems there is a device setting for the watch in the Connect software that controls this. Somehow it had reset back to 12-hour and miles from when I first set it up. If anyone else has the same problem try checking this. If you don't have a section (in Connect on web) for the watch, add it. Below the name of the watch there should be a link for its settings.
