24 Hour Watch Face Won't Stay!

I've had my FR235 for about two months now. There have been a few issues with active calories being way too low (I'll walk 10,000-12,000 steps a day in daily activities (ie-not including exercise) and my FR235 says I'll burn <200 calories in active calories for the day), but I'm starting to think that might have to do with my low weight and low heart rate not working well with the calorie burn algorithm. As I put on a few lbs I'm hoping that'll resolve.

However, for the past two days my watch face has been shifting from 24 hour to 12 hour mode. It's the Garmin watch face- not a Connect IQ watch face- so I have no idea why it keeps changing. I strongly prefer working off a 24 hour clock so this switching is driving me nuts. Has anyone else had this problem or know a fix for it? I've noticed that it always switches from 24 to 12 hour mode when I'm in my car and both my watch and car are synced to my phone's bluetooth- don't know if that helps.
  • What does the relevant setting in your Garmin Connect account say?

It said 12 hour- I changed it back so it now says 24 hour clock. I must have accidentally changed it when I was updating some other settings. I think this should resolve the issue- thank you so much!

Update: When I re-synced it to Garmin Connect (with the updated 24 hour clock Garmin Connect Account) my FR235 responded by switching to the 12 hour format. I changed it back manually on the watch but maybe it'll stick this time?
  • Same issue for me, it seems like almost every time I enter the settings in the Connect app on the phone, it resets my watch to 12 hour mode. I have set it to 24hour mode in the Connect App before, but I think that it gets reset back to 12hr every time you download an update to the app. Once again I have changed it to 24hour mode on the Connect App and synched successfully back to the watch to change to 24hr mode; we will see how long it takes before it gets reset to 12hr again.

It's still resetting to 12 hour whenever it seems to transfer data or update- updating my connect app preferences didn't help. I even did a hard reset and still the problem still persists. I'm calling Garmin when they are open to see if they can offer a solution.
  • I've only just noticed, to my utter surprise, that my Garmin Connect Mobile apps (on Android as well as on iOS) seem not to agree with my Garmin Connect account settings in that regard.

The former say, under (≡‑or‑∘∘∘)▸Garmin‑Devices▸Forerunner‑235▸Device‑Settings▸System, that my time format preference is 12-hour. I have since confirmed there is also a device-specific setting in Garmin Connect online, under ≡▸Devices▸Device‑Settings▸Device‑Display, that reflect what the apps say. All the same, the factory-installed Digital watch face consistently shows me the time in 24-hour format in spite of many sync operations with either app, so I really cannot explain why the setting seems not to be synced or applied.

To be clear, there's like 18 different places you can set 12 vs 24 hr mode... off the top of my head i think you can set it in the Garmin Connect online website, Garmin Connect phone app, Garmin Express desktop app, and the Garmin watch itself.... and none of those 4 places synchronize to each other to keep it all consistent. Whichever one happens to have been opened/used to synch last wins the battle.

That's been my experience anyway. I'm not going to test it because my watch happens to be displaying the way I want at the moment and I'm tired of battling over the 12vs24hr mode in the various apps.

We appreciate the discussion in this, and other threads regarding this issue. We have escalated the issue of Garmin Connect overwriting device settings, or not saving user settings to the Connect team for further investigation. We do apologize for any inconvenience this caused while a resolution is being worked on.

    Same Problem

Have you noticed that units changes as well after synchronizing with Bleutooth? I have the same problem with time format and units (change from km to miles).
