No running activity

I have a Garmin 235 and some things are behaving oddly.

1) I do not see a Running activity, only indoor running. That is ok but not preferred since it still records my run via GPS. But then when synced with my phone, it says Treadmill Running. How do I add just "running"?

2) I tried the Bike activity but it did not record my movement. I had to choose Other for the distance to be measured.

Any ideas?

Unless something is very wrong with your FR235 and require a factory reset, you should be able to restore accessibility of the (outdoor) Run activity profile by pressing from the watch face (to change the relevant setting from Hide to Show).

    Thanks, that worked.

Do you have any idea on why the Biking activity would not record distance?

Also is it normal for a shutdown and restart of the phone to no longer have the correct time?
  • Which activity profile are you using: Bike, or Bike Indoor?

I don't ride, but I've used the Bike profile to track a walk once just for kicks, and as far as I'm aware it tracks distance by calculating displacement using GPS. That of course requires allowing the FR235 to acquire a fix on satellites to determine your position; in the absence of such, no distance can be determined or recorded.

The watch usually has the correct date and time if you simply turned it off (using the menu option on the device) and then back on, unless you let a day or two pass between those two events. However, if you perform a hard reset, it'll usually lose the date and time, and you can only set them ‘automatically’ by acquiring a GPS fix after restarting the watch (which means you have to start or prep a GPS-tracked activity while outdoors). The same goes for if the device spontaneously ‘crashes’ and resets itself without user intervention; I've seen that happen on my FR235 twice in five months.
