Hi

I will note some of my experience with Firmware ver 5.04 Beta
1. Installation – No issues
2. Cosmetically (watch face, screens) same
3. Whatsapps notification – (text inverted)Fixed from ver 4.70 and 5.03 Beta
4. Heart rate monitor lock (time it takes the watch to lock onto your heart rate, any screen. I was seated)
– Did about 20 test and average lock time is 25 sec. Much better than ver 4.70
* Update 07 July - went on my first run today, couldn't get a HR lock after 2 min of waiting on the Run HR screen. A Quick reboot and 20sec HR lock.
5. Cadence lock
* Update 07 July - went on my first run today, no cadence lock detected.Although my HR and cadence values was not close. e.g HR 140 vs Cadence 167 spm. Maybe getting the values close would be a good test.
6. GPS Fix – within 5~10 Sec - same as always..pretty quick
7. Watch speed between menu – minimal improvement detected
8. Battery life – Not fully tested
* Update 07 July - At what percentage does the "Low Battery" alert get displayed?
9. Sync with phone – Working as it should…not fully test

  • After some more testing and running, I'm not having many issues with the beta version. I initially reported that I was having battery problems, but after resetting and fully charging, it seems ok.

The resting heart rate is still different for me. I've been consistently at 44 since upgrading to the 5.04b, which is great, but I've never been that low in the past. I wish I knew how they changed their resting heart rate algorithms to know if it's more accurate now, or if it was more accurate in the past.
  • Well hopefully everybody has a view on what is "accurate" for yourself re RHR.

I just looked at RHR and it says 44. However, sat down at the end of the day, I looked at my HR and it dropped to 43 and a few minutes later to 41. The current Low value is 40. My min HR can get to 35. So what was does RHR = 44 actually mean. A mystery I have to say...
  • Sleep tracking

    Hi,

in my case, everything works as expected but sleep tracking is totally messed. It detects all night as deep sleep without any movement even if I get up it doesn't detect it.

In 4.6 firmware it was quite acurate.

    Anyone with the same problem?

    bricked after update? :(

Would not immediately turn back on after install. Blank screen. Pressed and held buttons down and eventually powered on again. Had me worried, this watch is awesome.
  • HRM lock still not happening

After a month of frustration with the HRM never locking in before an activity, I installed the 5.04 beta update. At first I thought that Garmin had finally fixed this issue. But after several days, the same problem came back. Switch to a run, GPS locks within a few seconds, heart icon just keeps blinking. When is Garmin going to fix this? I guess it's back to my Epson for now. It works every time.

After spending some time with the beta, I still have all the same HR issues I had with 4.6 and 4.7 it seems. Takes a very long time to lock, if it does at all. Also still get bizarre peaks and valleys in readings, where it will randomly fall off to the low 40s or even down into the 30s when I'm sitting or standing still. When I do start moving, occasionally it will skyrocket to 160-170 when I'm just casually moving around the office during the day.

Does it sample differently during activities? i haven't had any cadence locking or wild readings during runs at all, with any version so far.
  • IQ Widgets stopped worked correctly:

    1) Multi time zones - cannot store this zones - after adding and quitting it - the same screen - add time zones
    2) Battery gauge - shows not grpaph but only current value
  • Working fairly well except for the battery widget graph issue raised above. Seems like getting less flakey hr readings. Sleep is fine. Not sure vo2 is updating.

    frustrated

I finally got my 235...and it is bad! I tried it 2 months ago, and it was amazing, but now, with the latest version, it doesnt show HR in any activity, and with the Beta 5.04 , same. Furthermore, resting HR showed is almost 10 over real resting HR (proved in another Suunto at same time)... Do I put back to amazon the 235 or Garmin is gonna fix it?
