Hi

I will note some of my experience with Firmware ver 5.04 Beta
1. Installation – No issues
2. Cosmetically (watch face, screens) same
3. Whatsapps notification – (text inverted)Fixed from ver 4.70 and 5.03 Beta
4. Heart rate monitor lock (time it takes the watch to lock onto your heart rate, any screen. I was seated)
– Did about 20 test and average lock time is 25 sec. Much better than ver 4.70
* Update 07 July - went on my first run today, couldn't get a HR lock after 2 min of waiting on the Run HR screen. A Quick reboot and 20sec HR lock.
5. Cadence lock
* Update 07 July - went on my first run today, no cadence lock detected.Although my HR and cadence values was not close. e.g HR 140 vs Cadence 167 spm. Maybe getting the values close would be a good test.
6. GPS Fix – within 5~10 Sec - same as always..pretty quick
7. Watch speed between menu – minimal improvement detected
8. Battery life – Not fully tested
* Update 07 July - At what percentage does the "Low Battery" alert get displayed?
9. Sync with phone – Working as it should…not fully test

5.04 still has same problem that you can't access connect iq app settings via iOS app (known issue to Garmin). Have to use garmin connect. Back to 4.70 until they fix this issue. I tend to get a HR lock in about 10s on 4.70... noticed even faster on 5.04b. Hope they continue to improve. Seems like I can only get GPS to work on widgets if I have it lock onto an activity first then run the widget. Same for 4.7 and 5.04b.
  • I posted this in the other thread.

    Two possible issues:

    1. Battery life may have taken a step back. It was fully charged yesterday afternoon and is sitting at 40% currently in less than 24 hours. I'll keep my eye on it. For now I'm not worried.
    2. My resting heart rate is all over the place. Last night the RHR was showing 40 on the device when my Low was 62 (see attached). Today RHR is 52, while my low is 54. My RHR is typically in the very low 50's. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'll keep watching it.

I may not be understanding your concern, but the low/high readings are different than RHR. The low/high numbers are for the last 4 hours where the RHR are since midnight. Your image looks good to me. I'm used to having my RHR being higher than my 4 hour low. I'm still running 4.70.
  • It's just an observation at this point and behaving differently from what it's done in the past, so I'm just keeping my eye on it.

My resting heart rate is always a little higher than my low. I'm now seeing it the other way around where my low is quite a bit higher than my RHR.

For the record, I only wear my watch when I'm awake.

I just installed the beta and I'm waiting 24 hrs to see what my RHR displays. I too would have a RHR which was higher than my 4 hr low which is impossible. After checking about 10 times, I'm very pleased I'm getting a lock on my HR after 4-5 seconds compared to the 25+ seconds I had before. Hopefully those crazy spikes while resting are gone too.

Update: RHR still makes no sense! I woke up about 2 hrs ago. My 4 hr low is 47 and my current HR is 68, yet my RHR shows 70??? Am I missing something here? Has mathematics recently changed and I didn't hear about it. At the very least, my RHR should be reading 47.
  • Garmin seems to have recently changed the definition of RHR. The 235 and 735 now work similarly. It is no longer a simple lowest value which is why it can be higher than the recent lowest value (the Low one) on the HR widget. RHR seems to be some sort of average HR when at rest - so typically overnight if you wear it overnight.

I just emailed support about this issue. Good to know, though I'm having a little difficulty believe my average would be 70 after a good night's sleep. Any idea why there's such a discrepancy between the RHR readings on the watch and Garmin Connect?
  • Did you email the beta support team? There's a dedicated email address for these beta releases, I believe.

No, but I did make it clear that I was using 5.04 and this has been an issue for me since 4.60.

They don't seem to be reporting the same thing! For me, the ones this week on GC look more like the "old" lowest values. Mind you though in previous weeks the values are higher and more like the "new" RHR. TBH don't know what's going on here. It's not very helpful...
