iOS app companion for Forerunner 235

Hi everyone,

I've just got a Forerunner 235 and I've done my first running session today. It's really great! Until now, I was using the Runtastic iOS app to monitor my running sessions and the two fonctions I like the most are:
1) Possibility to follow a route (I travel a lot and I need some guidance in order not to get lost during the running)
2) Audio live coach

I've installed Garmin Connect to my iPhone, but if I understood well, this app is no good during the session, but afterwards. Is there a "best iOS app" to used during the running session with the Forerunner 235? I don't know, but I think of Strava, Runkeeper, etc...

So, what do you say?

Thanks,

L.
  • For the first question, there are a few things that may help:

    1) If you're looking to get back to where you started, there is a "back to start" option on the watch.

    2) (disclaimer - I wrote this one! :) ) you can add a data filed to the running app that shows you how you got to where you are so you can head back the same way. (The next version will also show you lap marks on the chart)

    3) (disclaimer - I've never used this one but it's popular!) dwMap seems to allow you to pre-load a map by way of your phone with a course, etc, and it's not iOS or Android specific (it uses your phone to get the info from the internet)

Thanks for the tips. I've installed both apps. However, as far as I understood, it's not possible to execute an IQ app at the same time of a planned workout for example. I mean, I've a series of scheduled workouts to prepare for a competition. But as I travel a lot, I have to find a way to manage my running sessions wherever I am... without getting lost!

For example, tomorrow I have a 40 min interval training session. I'd like to have the information from the session on the watch (30" x 30"). So, this is the reason why I'm looking for an iPhone app that could independently charge a GPX circuit and guide me on a turn-by-turn tour while I keep attention to the training session.

I've tried some apps: MapMyRun, Gaia GPS, MotionX and Navigon. It seems that Navigon is the only one that supports an audio turn-by-turn guidance.

Basically, how to keep a workout plan on the watch (so, IQ apps are not possible) and not getting lost on a city I just don't know at all?

    Thanks,

    L.
  • I don't know if this app is available through Apple, but I've recently used an Android app called "RunGo" for route guidance. It worked very well. So on my runs I often carry my phone (Droid Turbo 2) along with a set of BT paired headphones (Plantronics BackBeat Fit - Love them!). I play music, get audio prompts (Heart Rate, Pace, Lap Info) from my FR235 via Garmin Connect, and verbal route guidance from RunGo all at the same time.
